LBC Participating in National Night Out 2017

Lansdowne Baptist Church will be represented again at the Lansdowne, PA, National Night Out on Tuesday evening, August 1, 2017. Come and meet us, get to know who we are, and let us get to know you too. For any congregants interested in participating, the pastor and his wife will be setting up at 5 p.m. in the Highland Avenue parking lot. If you want to join us representing the church, please bring a chair and water. We will have a portable shelter as we have in the past. We'll bring information, invitations, some coloring pages to give away, and a good, old fashioned American Baptist Christian welcome! This year, the police department will be providing a "Critter Connection," allowing the community to meet Officer McGowan and his K-9 partner Chapek. There will be a K-9 demonstration at 7 p.m. As always there will be a community cookout and The Taste of Lansdowne. It is a good time and a great opportunity to meeting more of our community and share our joy in Jesus.
Whenever we gather together as a congregation as ambassadors for Jesus,
we have a good time.

New Flyer to Introduce LBC

We have taken our 4th of July flyer and used it as a template for a new flyer for the Lansdowne Baptist Church.  This we have adjusted and updated to put our best foot forward. Now we are putting on our thinking caps to see just how many ways we can make use of it. So far, we have copies for visitors to the church and it has appeared at the National Night Out. Now, it is here for you to review. Who knows what will happen next???

Of course, if you really want to get to know us, drop by any Sunday and meet us personally. I believe you will be glad you did!

Lansdowne, Pennsylvania's, 4th of July Parade

During the march, many groups, many balloons

The DAR prepares in the background

On July 4th, Lansdowne throws a parade for everyone to enjoy. Those marching represent a wide variety of organizations in town, including churches, clubs, Veterans organizations, the DAR, political organizations, school bands, string bands, and more. I caught up with my friend Nancy, the pastor of the Presbyterian church, whose members are involved every year. The were passing out leaflets about the church and Nancy told me they have someone new come to the church every year based on their efforts. I could tell turning out and participating in the parade was important as I moved along the parade route and heard people commenting on Nancy's nice church as they participated.
March prep on the side streets

I was representing Lansdowne Baptist in an informal way this year, walking along the parade route, meeting wonderful people involved in the parade and watching, handing out all the flyers I had about our church, which people readily accepted, and receiving multiple flags from a young member of the boy's swim team, which was handing out American flags to everyone who they could reach in the crowd. I gave each of mine to some person who had been missed, knowing my new friend would soon give me another.

Friends and Presbyterians both represented
It was a wonderful parade, a very civic-minded project, and one for which tropical storm Andrew behaved itself, holding off on rain until the parade was over. Next year, I hope and intend for LBC to formally participate in the parade. We shall see. This is one of those moments when God is calling us all out to be part of the larger community. Right now in the United States, only 51% of churches do that. I'm hoping this friendly turnout and wonderful parade will encourage us to do more ... and to have a positive impact on our community when we do.
Being Philadelphia, we had string bands!

Parading in style!

Come join our family. ALL are welcome here!

New Members Classes to be Offered in May 2014

A series of four new membership classes will be offered to all who have become members of Lansdowne Baptist Church within the last year to year and a half by the pastor. Each class will be an hour long. These classes will be offered in the month of May. Sign-up sheets will be provided for all who are interested in attending. A second sign-up sheet will be provided for sponsors. Sponsors are long-term members of the congregation who would like to partner with new members, take the classes with them, offer to spend a little time outside class getting to know the new members and answering any questions that may have arisen in class. On the last Sunday in May, sponsors will be asked to introduce their member to the congregation as a whole. Classes will cover the basics of the Baptist faith and provide some history of Lansdowne Baptist Church. Class time is tentatively set for the Sunday school hour, unless participants would prefer another meeting time.
