LBC Candlelight Service 2016

On Sunday, December 18th, 2016, at 7:00 in the evening, you are invited to Lansdowne Baptist Church's annual Christmas Candlelight Service.  This inspiring service includes a service of lessons and carols. The lessons span both the Old and New Testaments. Follow the story of God's love for humanity, a love so strong that nothing we could do would destroy it, from the very beginning through the joyous birth of Jesus, the Messiah, who would show us the way home to God and declare in word and deed how much we are all beloved children of God. Following the lessons and carols is a truly unique message during which the light of Christ is shared throughout the church sanctuary, taking a single point of light at the pulpit out throughout the gathered people, sharing Jesus' love and message until the sanctuary, once dark, is lit by candles. By that soft glow, Silent Night is sung to end a beautiful, inspiring, and memorable evening sure to give you the real Christmas spirit. Come and join in this profound moment of worship and peace. Come and share our joy.

Sunday, September 18, Worship Outdoors at 11 a.m.

This Sunday, September 18, 2016, the worship hour returns to 11 a.m. To kick off the fall season, we will be worshiping outside on our grounds by the education wing, near the intersection of Lansdowne and East LaCrosse avenues. Our pianist, Doug Yadevia, has come up with a full, portable, electric piano to accompany our hymn singing. The hymns themselves will be familiar and inviting ones. The sermon will speak to us about prayer that God finds "right and acceptable." The sermon is based on 1 Timothy 2:1-7.

Come out and join us in our joy, worshiping our wonderful God.* Bring a friend along to enjoy this outdoor worship experience. All are welcome!

*Our Sunday school classes for children and adults will begin the following week, September 25, at 9:45 a.m. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to join us for Sunday school as well!

Instruments Of Your Peace

Given the news of late, here is an extremely appropriate hymn. Since hymns are prayers is song, it is also an appropriate prayer for all of us, every day.

Appropriate to this prayer in song are the following verses from Romans 12:

A hymn for the troubled soul is also appropriate here:

It is well with my soul: A Powerful Hymn for Painful Times

Hymns can speak to us in our darkest moments. They are prayers set to music. At times, when you know the story behind the writer of a hymn, the declaration of faith it contains can be truly, deeply moving, as in the case of this old standard, "It Is Well with My Soul." May you find some consolation in this prayer set to music today if you grieve. We stand by you and pray for you in your difficulty and your pain. Please know that you are not alone.

God bless you.
