What Tabitha Made: Sermon for Mother's Day 2019

The sermon for Mother's Day, May 12, 2019, was based on Acts 9:36-43. We reflected on the work of Tabitha, a Jewish Christian serving the Gentile poor of the port city of Joppa. Such a pillar of her community was she, that the disciple Peter was called from the capital of the region, Lyyda, to bear witness to Tabitha's service. We discussed how Tabitha filled the original idea for Mother's Day as proposed by Anna Jarvis: a day to remember the peacemakers and those advocating social good, as Anna's own mother had done. Watch and see where all this goes.

Iron Man & God's Armor

Sermon from June 24, 2018, based on Ephesians 6:10-17, comparing Tony Stark's Iron Man suit of armor with the whole armor of God. Super heroes provide a wonderful illustration for biblical points. This sermon explores how best to use the various attributes of God's armor. It allows us to help ourselves and others facing adversity, including the ongoing separation of parents from their children along the US southern border and all the issues associated with this practice.
