End of Summer Bash 2018

Water balloon toss

Setting up for the fun
Saturday, August 25, Lansdowne Baptist congregants put on our party hats and celebrated the end of the summer with our children, their parents, grandparents, and our neighborhood kids. It was a great time. There were lots of games, food, giant bubbles to pop, and a bounce house that drew kids in from far and wide. It was a terrific event planned and operated by Lansdowne Baptist volunteers. Volunteers are vital to an active church, using all their God-given talents to create lively events we all enjoy. Thanks to everybody who made the day special. Thanks also for being so welcoming to the pastor & his wife's 15-year-old beagle Daisy, who enjoyed sniffing around the buildings and grounds, recieving lots of love from the kids, giving it back ... and getting a dropped crumb or two here and there. School supplies were provided for all the school age kids, while goodie bags with treats were given to the younger set.
Ring toss...several of us grown up kids had to try our luck!

Jacks!

We thank God for a wonderful day and were glad to share our joy with our community. We look forward to seeing you all again next year. Have a safe, happy, and enlightening school year, kids.
Giant bubbles!

National Night Out 2018 Success

Join us next year. You all are invited!

On Tuesday, August 7, 2018, Lansdowne Baptist Church volunteers put together and operated our booth at the National Night Out in Lansdowne, Pennsylvania. We gave away cold water and candy, along with children’s activity books and fliers. Information about our church was shared, stories were told, and, yes, once again, large bubbles were blown. Children were drawn from across the parking lot to pop those big bubbles and blow their own. When they arrived, parents or grandparents in tow, those activity books for the kids and fliers for the adults were given out. One of our volunteers brought a stereo and took those fliers and activity books all across the grounds, speaking with people about Lansdowne Baptist and giving away those materials. By the end of the night, nearly all fifty activity books and many fliers were gone. Thanks to all our talented volunteers. Without the active work and God-given talents of all our volunteers, this night of evangelistic outreach would not have happened. Thanks to everyone who made the night a success.

Fliers, activity books, information & candy ...
a warm welcome for all.
We used four straws and two strings to
blow large bubbles. Easy peasy.

Phillie Phanatic
Along with food and music, a colorful surprise guest showed up, the Phillie Phanatic. A good time was had by all and Lansdowne Baptist congregants had the privilege of meeting so many of our wonderful neighbors.

Foundations

Sermon based on Luke 6:46-49 answering the question, how do you know you have a firm foundation? Having one allows us to be confident in the face of the storms of life. Having one allows us to live life as confident individuals who are able to fulfill the great commandments, loving God and neighbors. Living life from that firm foundation requires trying, falling flat on our faces, getting up and trying again. Are you in? Come along and learn how it is done.

Spring Arrives in Lansdowne

We are celebrating the warming days, the beautiful flowers, the budding and flowering trees, the awakening grass ...

It reminds us of the Song of Solomon 2:11-12:

For now the winter is past, the rain is over and gone. The flowers appear on the earth; the time of singing has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land.

Well, since this is a different climate, we'll say hopefully the snow is over and gone. Rain: that's another matter here in southeastern Pennsylvania.

Of course, we are right across the street from the Dollar Tree, so some unusual items sometimes end up in our yard. We don't mind nifty ones like these whirligigs. Whimsy and surprise are welcome. And if some child wants them, and it will brighten that child's day, by all means take those little whirligigs!

Wishing you all a blessed day.

Strong Foundation

Sermon for November 19, 2017, on the 130th anniversary of Lansdowne Baptist Church's 1887 founding. The sermon is based on Luke 6:47-49, Jesus' parable of the wise and foolish architects. One builds on a strong foundation and weathers all storms. Jesus' teachings and example and salvation are that strong foundation. Worthwhile consideration for all churches today.

Celebrating Our 130th Anniversary: 1887-2017

This Sunday, November 19, 2017, Lansdowne Baptist Church's congregation celebrates our 130th year of service to God, following the two great commandments to love God and neighbor. It has been an honor to serve our Lansdowne community and to spread the good news far and wide of Jesus, who came to save us and to show us God's profound and abiding love for us all. We will have special memories from some of our members, wonderful hymns accompanied by an equally wonderful pianist, a sermon reflecting on where we have been and looking forward to where we shall go, following obediently where God leads. Through it all, we will enjoy the warm company of our Lansdowne Baptist Church members and friends. Consider yourself invited. See you Sunday morning, at 11 a.m.
