Lenten Prayer Services 2017: Join Us
Lenten Prayer Services will be offered in the Lansdowne Baptist Church sanctuary on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 PM on March 8, 22, 29, April 5, and April 12. These brief and meaningful services will explore our Christian lives together, basing our time together on Henri J.M. Nouwen’s influential spiritual classic Life of the Beloved. We will discover together: 1) what it means to be beloved by God, as Jesus is beloved; 2) how to accept that this status as beloved child of God; and 3) how to live as such a beloved child, living the disciple’s full life Christ calls us to and drawing others to that life. All members and friends of Lansdowne Baptist Church are invited and encouraged to come. Anyone else who chooses to walk in and join us will be warmly welcomed as well. Wishing us all a prayerful, meaningful Lent, during which we all draw closer to Jesus Christ.
Lent is a time of self-examination, spiritual reflection, repentance, sacrifice, and focused prayer. Lent is a time to examine our hearts and lives, to acknowledge our sins, to look for the ways we are not choosing the gospel or welcoming those whom Jesus calls us to embrace. In the process, we turn away from the sins (all those behaviors, habits, etc. that draw us away from God’s purposes) and self-centeredness and toward our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In this way we prepare to meet Christ in his resurrected glory on Easter. We pray for a change of heart toward greater love of God and neighbor, and all that accompanies that growing love.
